Discussions between the artist and the tribesmen about the content of the play, sketch a picture of perception on the world, on the west, and their own culture. Conflicts arise not only within the spectrum of the photographic product itself, but already in the general presence of artists within the community. Cultural differences or eg. negative experiences gained by tribal members with outsiders come to light and create a framework for understanding the community. The situation becomes the playing field that to drive to existential data, in which the organization of people and society is questioned.
The survival of the tribes goes hand in hand with the retention of the population in Indonesia. The dreams, nightmares, visions of the future, where the tribes are also portrayed as they looked in the glory days of their culture, contrasts with reality – There is no longer untouched nature as we know from National Geographic, where the offscreen waste is censored. The tourist campaigns by the government also give a very distorted picture of the reality of the tribes. In essence, there is little or no cultural preservation unless it ties in with a nationalistic program.
