synopsis: Far West is a surrealist journey through the vast landscapes of North America. Traveling along Death Valley, the canyons and the Rocky Mountains we end up in a series of mysterious western scenes. Cowboys and Indians silently waiting their fate. The world seems to be frozen in some strange cinematic suspense. While western icons barely carry out their personality, nature itself becomes the leading character of this movie. The characters in a constant duel, against himself and against nature. Energetic landscapes and cowboys without words are driven to a climax.
intention: Far West is a meditation on the western movie genre. A deconstruction of his typical elements, the long shots, the slowness of the edit, substituted with the aspects of documentary and still photography. Completely build out of found footage material.
Finding new narratives build up on classical cinematic values is an important aspect of my research. The absence of context or a concrete storyline often stresses with cinematic expectations generated by classical movie values. In this subjective spaces i make way for unusual filmic suspenses and new meaningful poetic layers. Here i often end up in surrealist constructions, which i like to refer to the paintings of Magritte and Paul Delvaux, who had a big impact on me from my childhood.
